1917-D Standing Liberty Quarter Type-II VF
In 1917, the United States Mint released a revised version of its twenty-five cent piece, known today as the Type-II Standing Liberty Quarter. Minted in Denver, this silver coin is composed of 90 percent silver, containing approximately 0.17875 troy ounces of the precious metal. The design represents a fascinating moment in American coinage, combining symbols of strength and peace during a turbulent global era. The obverse side of the coin features a powerful, militaristic depiction of Liberty. She is shown stepping forward through an opening in a wall, clad in protective chain mail. In her hands, she bears both a defensive shield and an olive branch, symbolizing a desire for peace backed by the readiness to defend it. The inscriptions on this face include the traditional motto "IN COD WE TRVST" and the year of manufacture. On the reverse, the coin displays a majestic eagle soaring through the sky. Surrounding the flying bird are the inscriptions "UNITED STATES OF AMERICA," "E PLVRIBVS VNVM," and the denomination "QUARTER DOLLAR." Those specimens struck at the Denver Mint are distinguished by a small "D" mint mark, indicating their origin at the Colorado facility. This particular coin survives in Very Fine condition, showing moderate wear but retaining its clear design details.
