1917-S Standing Liberty Quarter Type-I XF

0.1788 troy oz .900 1917 Extra Fine

The 1917-S Standing Liberty Quarter represents an early moment in one of America's most celebrated twentieth-century coinage series. Minted in San Francisco, this twenty-five cent piece is composed of 90 percent silver, containing approximately 0.17875 troy ounces of the precious metal. It belongs to the Type-I design variety, which was only produced during the initial phase of the series. On the obverse side, the design showcases Liberty stepping forward through an opening in a stone wall. In her hands, she carries both an olive branch of peace and a protective shield. The year 1917 is inscribed at the base of the gate, while the motto "IN GOD WE TRUST" is visible in the surrounding field. This particular coin is preserved in Extra Fine condition, showing crisp details in Liberty's figure and the gateway. The reverse of this Type-I quarter features a majestic eagle soaring through the air, flanked by the traditional Latin motto "E PLURIBUS UNUM". The San Francisco mint produced fewer than two million of these pieces, making this specific issue an intriguing study for those fascinated by early twentieth-century American coinage artistry.
