In 1917, the United States Mint produced a distinctive variety of the twenty five cent piece that remains a favorite among numismatic enthusiasts. This early twentieth century coin, struck in 90 percent silver, showcases the initial design format of the Standing Liberty series, commonly referred to by collectors as the Type I variety. The obverse of this silver quarter features an elegant depiction of Liberty stepping forward through a stone gate. In one hand she holds an olive branch representing peace, while her other arm supports a shield. The reverse displays a powerful image of an eagle soaring through the air, surrounded by traditional inscriptions including the motto of the United States. Crafted from 0.17875 troy ounces of pure silver, this specific coin survives in Almost Good condition.
