1918-D Standing Liberty Quarter AU
The 1918 Standing Liberty quarter represents a fascinating era in United States coinage. Struck at the Denver Mint, this silver piece is composed of 90 percent silver, containing approximately 0.17875 troy ounces of the precious metal. With a total mintage of 7,380,000, this particular issue from the series captures a distinct moment in early twentieth-century American currency. On the obverse, the coin displays a powerful depiction of Liberty walking through an open gate. She holds an olive branch in one hand and a protective shield in the other. The inscriptions include the word LIBERTY arching above, the national motto IN GOD WE TRUST, and the 1918 year of issue at the base. The reverse side presents an elegant image of an eagle in full flight. Surrounding the soaring bird are the inscriptions UNITED STATES OF AMERICA, the traditional Latin motto E PLURIBUS UNUM, and the denomination QUARTER DOLLAR. Hermon MacNeil designed this classic motif, which remains celebrated for its artistic detail and historical character.
