The 1918 Standing Liberty quarter dollar, struck at the Denver Mint, offers a fascinating window into early twentieth-century American coinage. This silver coin, composed of 90 percent silver with approximately 0.1788 troy ounces of precious metal, carries a design that reflects the global tensions of its era. It is graded in Very Fine condition, showing honest wear that highlights its historical journey through commerce. On the obverse, the design presents a powerful, militaristic depiction of Liberty. She is shown stepping through a stone gate, clad in protective chainmail. In her hands, she holds both an olive branch of peace and a defensive shield. The inscriptions surrounding her include the word LIBERTY and the traditional motto IN GOD WE TRUST, rendered in classical style with a V replacing the U in TRUST. The year 1918 is clearly visible at the base of the design. Turning the coin over reveals an active reverse design featuring a majestic eagle captured mid-flight. The inscriptions on this side frame the soaring bird with the words UNITED STATES OF AMERICA, the Latin phrase E PLURIBUS UNUM, and the denomination QUARTER DOLLAR.
