1919-D Standing Liberty Quarter Fine

0.1788 troy oz .900 1919 Fine

The 1919 Standing Liberty quarter struck at the Denver Mint offers a fascinating window into early twentieth-century American coinage. Crafted from 90 percent silver, this twenty-five cent piece contains approximately 0.17875 troy ounces of precious metal. Because of the way these coins circulated, the date at the bottom of the obverse can often appear faint or heavily worn, making legible examples particularly intriguing to study. Designed by sculptor Hermon MacNeil, the obverse of the coin presents a powerful image of Liberty. She is depicted stepping through a stone gateway, clad in protective chainmail, while holding an olive branch in one hand and a shield in the other. The inscriptions on this side include the trust in God and the word Liberty. The reverse side of the coin shifts focus to a dynamic natural symbol, showcasing an eagle in full flight. Surrounding the airborne bird are the national identification of the United States of America, the traditional motto signifying one out of many, and the quarter dollar denomination.
