1920-D Standing Liberty Quarter Fine

0.1788 troy oz .900 1920 Fine

The 1920 Standing Liberty quarter, struck at the Denver Mint, is a remarkable example of early twentieth-century American coinage. Crafted from 90 percent silver, this twenty-five cent piece showcases a highly detailed and symbolic design that captures the spirit of its era. This particular coin survives in Fine condition, preserving the essential elements of its artistic composition despite decades of potential circulation. On the obverse, Lady Liberty is depicted stepping forward through a gateway. In her hands, she holds both an olive branch and a shield, representing a dual message of peace and defensive strength. The inscriptions on this side include the word LIBERTY and the motto IN GOD WE TRUST, rendered with the classic spelling where a V replaces the U in TRUST. The reverse of the coin presents a powerful image of an eagle soaring through the sky with its wings fully extended. Surrounding the majestic bird are the inscriptions UNITED STATES OF AMERICA, E PLURIBUS UNUM, and the denomination QUARTER DOLLAR. Hermon MacNeil designed this iconic imagery, which remains a favorite among those who appreciate the artistry of classic United States coinage. Out of a total mintage of 3,586,400 pieces struck at the Denver facility in 1920, each surviving specimen offers a tangible connection to the design trends of the post-World War I period.
