The 1921 Standing Liberty Quarter is a fascinating artifact from the early twentieth century, showcasing a design that departs from traditional depictions of Liberty. Struck in 90 percent silver at the Philadelphia Mint, this coin belongs to a year with a total mintage of 1,916,000 pieces. It contains approximately 0.18 troy ounces of precious metal, offering a tactile connection to the circulating currency of the pre-1933 era. On the obverse, Liberty is depicted in a powerful, militaristic stance. She wears chainmail and steps forward through a gateway, holding a shield in one hand and an olive branch in the other. This side of the coin bears the inscriptions LIBERTY and IN GOD WE TRUST, along with the 1921 date at the base. The design was created by Hermon MacNeil, whose initial can also be spotted on the obverse. The reverse presents a majestic eagle soaring through the air with its wings fully spread. Surrounding the flying eagle are the legends UNITED STATES OF AMERICA and E PLURIBUS UNUM, alongside the denomination of QUARTER DOLLAR. This particular coin survives in Very Fine condition, allowing observers to appreciate the fine details of both the defensive, armored Liberty and the graceful bird in flight.
