The 1923 Standing Liberty quarter, struck at the San Francisco Mint, represents a classic era of United States coinage. Struck in 90 percent silver with an actual silver content of 0.17875 troy ounces, this coin is highly regarded for its artistic composition. The San Francisco origin is marked by the small letter S located on the obverse. Hermon MacNeil designed the coin, creating a powerful visual narrative on both sides. The obverse showcases Liberty stepping forward through an opening in a wall, holding a shield in one hand and an olive branch in the other. This side also bears the motto IN GOD WE TRUST, rendered with a classic V in place of the U in TRUST. The reverse displays a majestic eagle soaring through the air, flanked by the traditional Latin motto E PLURIBUS UNUM. The surrounding inscriptions read UNITED STATES OF AMERICA and QUARTER DOLLAR. This particular coin survives in Very Fine condition, showing moderate wear but retaining clear details of MacNeil's original artwork from a total mintage of 1,360,000 pieces.
