The 1923 Standing Liberty quarter is a striking example of early twentieth-century American coinage, minted in 90% fine silver with a precious metal content of 0.17875 troy ounces. This particular coin survives in Extra Fine condition, preserving the intricate details of its powerful and symbolic imagery. On the obverse, Hermon MacNeil's design presents a militaristic depiction of Liberty. She is shown stepping forward through a stone gateway, clad in chainmail armor while holding a protective shield in one hand and an olive branch of peace in the other. The inscription "IN COD WE TRUST" is visible alongside the 1923 date. This imagery reflects a period of global tension, balancing readiness for defense with a desire for peace. The reverse of the coin features a majestic eagle soaring through the air, wings fully spread in flight. Surrounding the eagle are the traditional inscriptions "UNITED STATES OF AMERICA", "E PLVRIBVS VNVM", and the denomination "QUARTER DOLLAR". Struck at the Philadelphia mint, this coin carries no mint mark, which was the standard practice for the facility at the time.
