1924-D Standing Liberty Quarter Fine

0.1788 troy oz .900 1924 Fine

The 1924 quarter from the Denver Mint showcases one of the most active and symbolic designs in United States coinage. Struck in 90% silver, this piece from the Standing Liberty series captures a unique era of American artistic expression. The coin contains approximately 0.1808 troy ounces of silver, representing a time when precious metal circulated daily in the pockets of the public. On the obverse, Hermon MacNeil's design presents a powerful image of Liberty. She is depicted in a militaristic stance, wearing chainmail as she steps through an opening in a wall. In her hands, she holds both an olive branch and a shield, balancing a desire for peace with a readiness for defense. The inscriptions on this side include the words of trust and the date at the base of the gate. The reverse side of the coin features a majestic eagle captured mid-flight. Surrounding the soaring bird are the inscriptions denoting the nation of origin, the traditional motto, and the quarter dollar denomination. These silver coins remained in active circulation for decades until the rise in silver prices and the introduction of copper and nickel clad compositions led to their withdrawal from daily commerce.
