1927-S Standing Liberty Quarter Fine-12 PCGS

In 1927, the San Francisco Mint produced a remarkably small run of Standing Liberty quarters, striking only 396,000 of these silver pieces. This low production number makes the issue a particularly compelling find for those studying the United States coinage of the early twentieth century. Crafted from 90 percent silver, each coin contains approximately 0.17875 troy ounces of the precious metal. The coin features the artwork of Hermon MacNeil, presenting a powerful depiction of Liberty on the obverse. She is shown stepping through a gateway while wearing chainmail, holding an olive branch in one hand and a protective shield in the other. The year 1927 is clearly inscribed at her feet, alongside the traditional motto "IN GOD WE TRUST" and the word "LIBERTY" spanning the top rim. On the reverse, an elegant eagle is captured mid-flight, soaring across the sky. This side is framed by the inscriptions "UNITED STATES OF AMERICA" and the Latin phrase "E PLURIBUS UNUM". The denomination of "QUARTER DOLLAR" is anchored at the bottom, while the "S" mint mark on the coin denotes its origin from the historic San Francisco facility.
