1927-S Standing Liberty Quarter VF
The 1927 Standing Liberty quarter represents a fascinating era in United States coinage, blending classical allegory with the anxieties of a changing world. Struck in 90 percent pure silver at the San Francisco Mint, this twenty-five cent piece carries the distinctive 'S' mint mark on its obverse, positioned just to the left of the date. On the obverse side, the figure of Liberty is depicted walking forward through a stone gateway. She is outfitted in chainmail armor, holding an olive branch in one hand to represent peace, while her other hand grips a shield for defense. The inscriptions 'IN GOD WE TRUST' and the year '1927' are clearly visible, framing this powerful image of preparedness. The reverse of the coin features a majestic eagle soaring through the air with its wings fully spread. Surrounding the flying eagle are the traditional inscriptions 'UNITED STATES OF AMERICA', the motto 'E PLURIBUS UNUM', and the denomination 'QUARTER DOLLAR'. This particular specimen survives in Very Fine condition, showing moderate wear but preserving the essential details of Hermon MacNeil's celebrated artistic composition.
