The 1927-S Standing Liberty quarter represents a fascinating moment in United States coinage. Struck at the San Francisco Mint, this coin belongs to a year with a remarkably low mintage of just 396,000 pieces. Crafted from 90 percent silver, it contains approximately 0.1808 troy ounces of precious metal. This particular specimen is preserved in Very Good condition, showing the honest wear of a coin that circulated during the early twentieth century. Designed by Hermon MacNeil, the obverse of the coin presents a powerful depiction of Liberty. She is shown wearing chainmail as she steps through an opening in a wall, holding an olive branch in one hand and a shield in the other. The inscriptions 'LIBERTY' and 'IN GOD WE TRUST' flank her, with the 'S' mint mark visible near her feet above the 1927 date. The reverse displays a majestic eagle soaring through the air. The bird is flanked by thirteen small stars, representing the original colonies. Surrounding the flying eagle are the legends 'UNITED STATES OF AMERICA', the traditional motto 'E PLURIBUS UNUM', and the denomination 'QUARTER DOLLAR'.
