The 1927 Standing Liberty Quarter is a fascinating window into early twentieth-century American coinage. Struck in 90 percent silver with a precious metal content of 0.17875 troy ounces, this twenty-five cent piece represents a classic era of United States currency. This particular coin survives in Good to Very Good condition, showing the honest wear of a piece that once circulated widely in daily commerce. Hermon MacNeil designed the artwork for this series, creating a powerful visual narrative on both sides of the coin. The obverse presents a standing figure of Liberty as she steps through a gateway, grasping an olive branch in one hand and holding a protective shield in the other. The inscriptions surrounding her include the word LIBERTY and the patriotic motto IN GOD WE TRUST, along with the 1927 date of manufacture. On the reverse, the coin features a majestic eagle soaring through the air. This flying eagle is accompanied by the inscriptions UNITED STATES OF AMERICA, the traditional motto E PLURIBUS UNUM, and the denomination QUARTER DOLLAR. Even with the softening of details that comes with the Good to Very Good grade, the strength of the original composition remains clearly visible.
