The 1928 Standing Liberty quarter, minted in Denver, represents a fascinating era in United States coinage. Struck in 90 percent silver, this twenty-five cent piece carries a net silver content of 0.17875 troy ounces. Even in a worn state, the coin retains the essential elements of its powerful and symbolic imagery. On the obverse, the figure of Liberty is depicted stepping forward through a stone gateway. In her hands, she holds an olive branch of peace alongside a protective shield. The legends on this side include the national motto of trust, alongside the date of 1928 at the base of the design. The reverse side of the coin features an eagle soaring through the sky, flanked by the traditional Latin phrase signifying unity. Hermon MacNeil designed this striking composition, which remains one of the most celebrated artistic achievements in early twentieth-century American numismatics.
