The 1928-S Standing Liberty quarter stands as a compelling example of early twentieth-century American coinage. Struck in 90 percent silver at the San Francisco Mint, this twenty-five cent piece showcases a distinct aesthetic that captures a unique moment in the nation's artistic history. The coin contains approximately 0.1788 troy ounces of precious metal, preserved in Brilliant Uncirculated condition. On the obverse, the design by Hermon MacNeil presents a powerful, militaristic depiction of Liberty. She is shown stepping through a stone gateway, clad in chainmail. In her hands, she balances the contrasting symbols of peace and defense, holding an olive branch in one hand and a shield in the other. The mint mark, a small letter S, is situated near the date of 1928 at the bottom of the design, alongside the motto IN GOD WE TRUST. The reverse of the coin features an elegant eagle captured mid-flight with its wings fully spread. This soaring figure is surrounded by the inscriptions UNITED STATES OF AMERICA, the traditional Latin motto E PLURIBUS UNUM, and the denomination QUARTER DOLLAR.
