The 1928 Standing Liberty quarter is a fascinating example of early twentieth-century American coinage. Struck in 0.17875 troy ounces of 90% silver at the Philadelphia Mint, this coin showcases a bold, militaristic representation of Liberty. On the obverse, she is depicted wearing chainmail as she steps through a gateway, holding a protective shield in one hand and an olive branch in the other. This side also displays the legible date of 1928 along with the traditional mottoes, "LIBERTY" and "IN GOD WE TRUST" rendered in the classical style. The reverse of the coin presents a powerful image of an eagle in mid-flight. Surrounding the soaring bird are the inscriptions "UNITED STATES OF AMERICA," "E PLURIBUS UNUM," and the denomination, "QUARTER DOLLAR." Designed by Hermon MacNeil, this particular specimen survives in Fine condition, preserving the essential details of this iconic and artistic design era.
