1928 Standing Liberty Quarter Good/VG
The 1928 Standing Liberty quarter is a fascinating example of early twentieth-century United States coinage. Struck in 90% silver, this twenty-five cent piece contains approximately 0.1788 troy ounces of precious metal. Even in Good to Very Good condition, the coin retains the essential elements of its celebrated design, offering a tangible connection to the era before 1933. On the obverse, the figure of Liberty is depicted stepping through an opening in a wall or gate. She holds an olive branch in one hand, symbolizing peace, while her other arm bears a protective shield. The inscription "IN GOD WE TRUST" is split across the gateway, with the date 1928 clearly visible at the base of the design. The reverse side of the coin presents a powerful image of an eagle soaring through the air. Surrounding this central figure are the traditional national inscriptions, including "UNITED STATES OF AMERICA", the Latin motto "E PLURIBUS UNUM", and the denomination "QUARTER DOLLAR". Designed by Hermon MacNeil, this series remains one of the most artistic and visually compelling circulating designs in American numismatic history.
