The 1929 Standing Liberty quarter is a fascinating example of early twentieth-century United States coinage. Struck in 90% silver, this twenty-five cent piece contains approximately 0.1788 troy ounces of precious metal. Even in a worn Good to Very Good condition, the coin retains the essential elements of its highly artistic and active design, which was originally created by Hermon MacNeil. On the obverse, the figure of Liberty is depicted in motion, stepping through an opening in a wall or gate. In her hands, she carries both an olive branch and a protective shield. The legends on this side include the word LIBERTY, the motto IN GOD WE TRUST (spelled with a classical V in TRVST), and the prominent 1929 date at the bottom. The reverse side of the coin presents a majestic eagle captured mid-flight. Surrounding the soaring bird are the inscriptions UNITED STATES OF AMERICA, the traditional motto E PLURIBUS UNUM (rendered as E PLVRIBVS VNVM), and the denomination QUARTER DOLLAR. Produced at the Philadelphia Mint, this coin does not bear a mint mark, making it a classic representative of its era.
