2016-W 1/4 oz Gold Standing Liberty Quarter Centennial (w/OGP)
In 2016, the United States Mint marked a century since the debut of one of its most celebrated circulating designs. This commemorative release recreates the classic Standing Liberty Quarter, which originally debuted in 1916 and was minted until 1930. Struck at the West Point facility in New York, this modern tribute is crafted from one-quarter ounce of 99.99 percent pure gold, presenting a beloved twentieth-century motif in a highly refined precious metal format. The obverse features Lady Liberty stepping forward through a gap in a wall adorned with thirteen stars. In her hands, she carries a shield and an olive branch, symbolizing both defense and peace. This side of the coin bears the inscriptions LIBERTY, IN GOD WE TRUST, and the year 2016, alongside modern notations indicating its gold content (AU24K and 1/4 oz.). On the reverse, an eagle is depicted in mid-flight with its wings fully spread, surrounded by thirteen stars. Originally created by Hermon MacNeil, this historic imagery is preserved on the coin's surface, which is finished with a reeded edge. This gold issue offers a fascinating bridge between America's coinage renaissance of the early 1900s and modern minting technology.
