In 2016, the United States Mint at West Point released a special tribute marking one hundred years since the debut of a classic American coin design. This quarter dollar is struck in one-quarter ounce of extremely pure 0.9999 fine gold, transforming a historical circulating design into a precious metal masterpiece. It features a reeded edge and a circulation strike finish, presenting a beautiful blend of traditional coinage style and modern minting excellence. The front of the coin displays Lady Liberty stepping forward through a gap in a stone wall, which is adorned with thirteen stars. Created by sculptor Hermon MacNeil, this image shows her holding a protective shield in one hand and an olive branch in the other. Legible inscriptions on this side include LIBERTY, IN GOD WE TRUST, and the date 2016, alongside the gold purity marking AU24K and the weight designation of 1/4 oz. On the reverse, MacNeil's artistry continues with a powerful depiction of an eagle soaring through the air with its wings fully spread. Thirteen stars surround the majestic bird, completing a symbolic and highly detailed design that celebrates a landmark moment in United States numismatic history.
